A good AI leadership program makes you a sharper buyer of AI. That’s worth real money, as long as you know that’s what you’re paying for.
I’m a certified Chief AI Officer (I earned it through ChiefAIOfficer.com’s program in 2024), so I’ve been the student in this seat. You walk out able to tell a real AI plan from a slide deck, and that alone can save a $5M company from a bad six-figure decision.
Here are 5 programs from MIT, Wharton and Stanford, sorted by price. Prices and dates are as listed on each school’s site in October 2026.
The 5 programs at a glance
| Program | School | Format | Length | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AI for Business | Wharton Online | Self-paced online | 4–6 weeks | $850 |
| Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy | MIT Sloan + CSAIL | Self-paced online | 6 weeks | $3,850 |
| Digital Strategy in the Era of AI Certificate | Wharton Online | Self-paced online | 4 weeks per course | $4,950 |
| Harnessing AI for Breakthrough Innovation and Strategic Impact | Stanford GSB | In person | 1 week | $17,500 |
| AI for Senior Executives | MIT xPRO | Long-form program | 22 weeks | $28,000 |
Wharton Online: AI for Business ($850)
The cheapest way to get the basics from a top school. It’s self-paced and runs 4 to 6 weeks.
Pick this if you’re the owner and you want enough grounding to ask your team and your vendors better questions. It’s also a reasonable first step for a COO or CFO before you fund anything.
MIT Sloan: Artificial Intelligence: Implications for Business Strategy ($3,850)
Run by MIT Sloan with MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab. Six weeks, self-paced, and MIT estimates 6 to 8 hours a week.
The focus is on what AI changes inside an organization and how managers should respond. It’s the strongest strategy course here for the money. Cohorts start October 7 and November 18, 2026.
Wharton Online: Digital Strategy in the Era of AI Certificate ($4,950)
A certificate track, 4 weeks per course, built around leading change. It suits a leader who’ll own a digital or AI initiative across departments.
Stanford GSB: Harnessing AI for Breakthrough Innovation and Strategic Impact ($17,500)
One week in person at Stanford, built for senior executives, including people with little or no technical background.
You’re paying for the room as much as the content. If time away from the business is the scarce resource, a week is easier to protect than 22. The November 2026 session already closed applications; the next one starts April 4, 2027.
MIT xPRO: AI for Senior Executives ($28,000)
The biggest commitment on this list: 22 weeks, six to seven months start to finish. It’s aimed at senior leaders who’ll drive AI adoption across a large organization.
For most $5M to $50M companies, that’s a lot of money and executive time spent on learning before anything changes in the operation.
How to choose
Start with the question you actually need answered.
If it’s “what is this stuff and what should I ask,” the Wharton course at $850 covers it. If it’s “how should our strategy change,” MIT Sloan at $3,850 is the better buy. The $17,500 and $28,000 programs make sense for leaders of large organizations, or for someone building a career as an AI executive.
And if the question is “where are my people losing hours, and what’s it costing me,” no course answers that. Someone has to look at your actual workflows.
What a course won’t do for your company
A program trains one leader. Your quoting, scheduling and order entry still run the same way on Monday.
That’s the gap we work in. Our AI Opportunity Blueprint™ is a fixed $5,000, 10-day diagnostic that maps where your team’s hours go, prices each workflow, and tells you what to fix first and what to leave alone. For teams that need hands-on skills more than strategy, there’s our AI Literacy training.
Take the course for the education. Get the diagnosis from someone who’ll watch your team work.
